    Website Happenings

As of this newsletter, our website has gone live and we are taking applications to play 7th Chevron.  You can apply at our website www.7thchevron.com

If you have questions for us about the game or if you just want to chat with us about Stargate, you can drop by our BBS at http://7thchevron.subspace.acalltoduty.com/phpBB2/

    Recruiting

Many of our Staff positions have been filled, but we are still looking for people to fill a few more positions.  If you are interested in working with 7th Chevron Training, working with the website, or working as support for the game, please e-mail me at actdree@earthlink.net.  If you are a LtCmdr or higher or a SM in ST:ACTD's PBeM or Chat divisions and are interested in being a Team CO or a Team Commander (7C's version of an SM), again, please let me know at actdree@earthlink.net.

    Hallmark Values

There are two values which we prize over any other - integrity and kindness.  First off, we value integrity.  The truth isn't always easy to tell, but it's always the best - and only answer for us.  If you ask questions, you won't receive a version of the situation skewed through a certain perspective.  You can expect honest, timely, and complete answers to all of your questions.  The second hallmark value of 7th Chevron is kindness.  Whether it is in the OOC during a chat game, whether it's on the BBS, or whether it's in e-mails, we value kindness.  We are all human, and we all disagree; however, people can disagree and do it kindly.  People can attack a problem together without attacking each other as people or without attacking a person's character.  In these troubled times in the world, we all need to know that where we go for recreation is a place that holds those two values in high regard.

Monthly Highlights

This month I wanted to highlight our different types of teams.

When we first begin, we are launching with 4 exploration teams; however as we grow, we have plans to expand to different types of teams where we plan on everything being interconnected.  The different teams we plan on eventually offering are Exploration Teams, Base Teams, Scientific Teams, Medical Teams, Engineering Teams, and Diplomatic Teams.

Exploration Teams are very much like what you see with SG-1.  They are there to explore different worlds, to make assessment on different technologies that may be valuable, different cultures and peoples that may be valuable allies against the Goa’uld.

Base Teams are exactly like what they sound.  These are the teams of men and women, enlisted and officer that work at the home base.   These jobs can be varied from a botanist who works with the flora of the home world or other worlds to an electrical technician who fixes and repairs basic equipment to the General who commands the base.   In PBeM, these teams will interact with each team that comes and goes through the stargate.

Scientific Teams are teams that are sent out after an exploration team has suggested that a planet needs further scientific exploration.  These teams may do work ranging from detailed soil analyses to astrological studies to any other number of scientific details that need analysis.

Medical Teams are dispatched to worlds which are in need of medical assistance ranging routine vaccinations to serious diseases which need in depth treatment.

Engineering Teams serve several different purposes.  Engineering teams may accompany an exploration team when they know that they will be in need of assistance with engineering details.  Engineering teams may be called on to demolish structures.  They may be asked to study alien artifacts to determine their purpose or workings.

Diplomatic Teams are called in when there is a delicate situation for which negotiations are necessary.  They are available to help settle disputes, to help negotiate trade agreements with different worlds, to help other teams with legal matters, to write up the paperwork associated with different treaties.

Considerations in Setting up an Off-World Base

By General Sandra Kovic

Commanding Officer

Stargate Andromeda Galaxy Base

When the second two sets of gate addresses were found in Antarctica, the decision to send two more teams off-world to new galaxies was an easy decision.  Making sure that the locations to which we had the coordinates were suitable for setting up an off-world base was not so easy.

When considerations are given to setting up a base on another world with a stargate several things have to be made certain.  First off, we have to make sure that we have a source of clean or cleanable water.  Second, the location of the base must be defendable.  Third, we have to make sure that the power generation needs of the base will in no way damage the ecosystem of the planet. Fourth, we wanted planets which were devoid of humanoid or intelligent life.  Lastly, we have to make sure that there is a location near enough to the stargate that is suitable for building a complex.

When looking at the planets to which we had the coordinates in both the Vega and Andromeda systems, each planet had to meet all four of the requirements.  In the Andromeda galaxy, there was a small freshwater lake approximately a mile from the stargate.  The lake was full of enough fish as for the first group of construction workers that gated over until the base had livestock set up.  The water in the lake was continually fed more fresh water by the streams that came down from the mountains.  There was no worry about using up all the water from the lake.  In the Vega galaxy, there was larger freshwater lake, but it was a little further from the stargate, approximately five miles from the stargate.  It too had plenty of fish of quality to eat.  The first criterion was fulfilled by each base.

Along with the stargate and new dialing devices found in each of the galaxies, a chair device, and Ancient shield technology were found in a small building at the gate site.  Both the chair device and the Ancient shield technology make each location defensible.  We discovered the hard way when we tried to test the shield technology that it will not work within fifteen days of powering the gate.  This puts us at a bit of a disadvantage and severely limits how often we can make trips back to earth.   When a wormhole is opened from earth, however, it doesn’t affect our ability to use the shield

It wasn’t incredibly difficult to do an ecological study on both planets.   Soil, air, and water samples were taken from the area within fifty miles of the Stargate.  Knowing that the power generation plant would be fairly small and finding out that the planet’s air, water, and soil would not be adversely affected, criterion three was satisfied.

In order to make sure that there were no humanoid life signs and in an effort to make sure that there was no intelligent life on the planet, the SGC sent three X-302’s through the Stargate to each galaxy.   The planet was divided into thirds and each X-302 scanned a third of the planet.  While we cannot be one hundred percent sure that there are no humanoids or intelligent life on the planets, we have made every effort to ensure that we are no intruding on someone else’s territory.

Within a half a mile of the gate in each of the galaxies there was a location sufficiently flat as to build the complex.   Machines of sufficient power to build the complex, yet of small enough size as to be able to be sent through the gate were readied and sent through to each galaxy and construction on two almost identical bases was begun almost a year and a half ago.  Today each of the bases are nearing completion and the SGC is now looking for brave and adventurous men and women to “Heed the Call” and join us in the Andromeda and Vega Galaxies.
